Sleep

Comfortable, relaxing and touches of luxury. Our 14 rooms combine period character with stylish country living design and modern, newly appointed bathrooms. Our accommodation is set between the 18th century inn, the ground floor courtyard rooms and the 17th century Monk's Cottage. All areas are pet-friendly and are within close proximity to the bar, restaurants and lounges.

Our guests can enjoy exploring the local area of Teesdale, County Durham and North Yorkshire with the market town of Barnard Castle just 6 miles away. Local heritage attractions include the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle and Raby Castle near Staindrop. Slightly further afield you will find the Auckland Project at Bishop Auckland and Durham City with the world heritage site Cathedral.

We offer a selection of suites, doubles and twin bedrooms in different parts of the property....

FAQs

Are dogs allowed?

Yes dogs are welcome in our bar area where you will find complimentary dog treats! The majority of our bedrooms are dog friendly for up to 2 dogs but please let us know in advance so we can prepare your room accordingly.

I’m staying with you, do I need to book a table for dinner?

If you have booked on a dinner inclusive rate then no, we will have already reserved you a table. If you have a preference over whether you are seated inn the bar or the restaurant then please let us know. Your table will be yours all evening so we normally just take a dining time form you at check in, if you have a specific time in mind though please feel free to let us know in advance.

If you are booked with us on a Bed & Breakfast only rate then we do recommend booking a table if you wish to dine with us. Both the bar and restaurant are popular and we may not be able to offer you a table if we are full.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is from 3.30pm but if you arrive before this then we can look after bags and the resident's lounge is available to you. Check-out is by 11am.

Do you have family rooms?

We have one suite with a sofa bed in the sitting room which is suitable for a child under 15. There is space for a cot in a number of our rooms but please call for details.

Do your rooms have a bath or shower?

The majority of our rooms have a shower over bath but we do have some rooms with a walk-in shower only.
