Sleep at The Rose and Crown

We aim to balance the traditional feel of a country inn with contemporary touches to provide a place that customers find comfortable, relaxing and enjoyable.

Feel at home

Comfortable, cosy and touches of luxury. Our 14 rooms combine period character with stylish country living design and smart up-to-date bathrooms. Our accommodation is set between the 18th century inn, the ground floor courtyard rooms and the 17th century Monk's Cottage. All areas are pet-friendly and are within close proximity to the bar, restaurants and lounges.

We offer a selection of suites, doubles and twin bedrooms in different parts of the property.  In your room you will find complimentary water in re-usable glass bottles, Molton Brown bathroom products in refillable dispensers, tea & coffee making facilities and some homemade biscuits!

Our guests can enjoy exploring the local area of Teesdale, County Durham and North Yorkshire with the market town of Barnard Castle just 6 miles away. Local heritage attractions include the Bowes Museum in Barnard Castle and Raby Castle near Staindrop.

Expect period features, beamed ceilings, exposed stone and the odd antique mixed in with the new, locally made furniture. These charming rooms are located on the 1st and 2nd floors.

An attractive single storey stone building located to the rear of the main inn next to the car park area offering good access and a little more independence.

This charming 17th century cottage which houses 2 guest rooms is just around the corner from the main inn and overlooks the green and magnificent Saxon church.

The Rose & Crown is only available to book directly. We do not work with any online travel agents or commission based booking agents.

We love dogs at the Rose & Crown and they are welcome to stay in the majority of our bedrooms, which are dog friendly!
